Hagaman, NY (9/30/2015)—The Board of Directors of the Amsterdam Family YMCA today issued the following statement:
“The Board of Directors of the Amsterdam Family YMCA has decided to cease operations and close its facility located at 58 North Pawling St., Hagaman, effective October 30, 2015.
“This was a difficult decision for our board. We conducted an extensive review of the Amsterdam Family YMCA’s operations and finances in the hope of finding an alternative to closing. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, no alternatives proved feasible. We simply do not have the financial resources needed to continue to operate. We are diligently working on the transition of our Before and After School Care Program at the Greater Amsterdam School District elementary schools to another quality childcare provider and will have an announcement shortly.
“We greatly regret that this decision will inconvenience our members and program participants. We are committed to working with them to find alternative programs and services locally. We also are deeply saddened by the impact this decision will have on our wonderful dedicated staff.
“The Amsterdam Family YMCA has had the privilege of serving the children, families and communities of the greater Amsterdam area for more than 158 years. We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from our members, participants, donors and community through the years.”
